The Southern Right Whale Eubalaena australis is a baleen whale with distinctive white or grey growths called callosities. Southern Right Whales have large heads and don't have a dorsal fin. This whale was nearly hunted to extinction before whaling was banned. Sightings of these magnificent creatures are reported as far North as Hervey Bay in Queensland. Most sightings of Southern Right Whales are reported from Southern coastal regions.
